Free event to help Welsh businesses cut costs through resource efficiency

Envirowise Wales is holding a free event to show businesses how to cut costs by taking the first steps towards resource efficiency – and prepare for new Welsh Assembly waste targets.

The workshop is being held at Bryn Meadows Golf and Country Hotel in Ystrad Mynach on 24th February 2010 and in Liberty Stadium on 25th February 2010.

The morning will provide practical advice on simple yet effective resource efficiency measures, as well as explaining the cost benefits and commercial advantages which companies can access through making small changes to their everyday practices. Sustainability experts will also discuss the significance of the Welsh Assembly Government’s ‘Towards Zero Waste’ document, which aims for all sectors in Wales to recycle 70% of their waste by 2025 and to achieve zero waste by 2050.

Tim Lineham, Envirowise Wales Programme Manager, said: "As companies throughout Wales continue to focus on reducing costs, business leaders would be well advised to take steps to become more resource efficient. Reducing waste and using less water and energy can be an effective way of boosting the bottom line and improving relations with stakeholders and customers – both of which are crucial for long-term success as we emerge from the recession."

The workshop will also provide an opportunity for participants to explore what support is available for businesses looking to take steps towards resource efficiency and find out if their company qualifies for funding. The morning will end with a networking session over lunch.

Businesses in Wales with over 50 employees who send over 50 tonnes of waste to landfill, or who use materials to manufacture products and packaging or provide hospitality services (including retail food outlets), can get tailored support from Envirowise to improve their resource efficiency and competitiveness. This free, confidential and independent service is available from a network of regional managers and includes site visits, regional clubs, specialist consultancy and help developing action plans and monitoring progress. This event is part-funded by the EU’s Convergence European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Assembly Government.
