If you are managing food production or working in an environment where food is being prepared for consumption, you will know just how tough it is to keep waste down to a minimum. You're not alone... UK industry is thought to be wasting over 3.6 million tonnes of food every year, which is an estimated £10million of profit thrown away! Consumers are also becoming only too aware of some of the environmental issues - like food miles, waste, recycling and carbon footprints. So learning new skills and being able to implement new ideas into your business is becoming even more vital to win and keep customers in today's marketplace. Business Link are hosting free breakfast meetings for businesses to find out more about reducing Food Waste and how to access business support and subsidised training. The breakfast meeting, which runs from 8am-10am, will include presentations by several specialist speakers covering food and food waste, food recycling and skills development. Breakfast will be provided free of charge and you will have the opportunity to put forward your ideas and discuss issues with others in your industry. You will also find out about Enviroskills - a new service which can be accessed through Business Link. The Enviroskills service will help you to identify skills gaps and find short, bite sized courses to train staff. Many of the courses the Enviroskills team can direct you towards are subsidised such as: HACCP Environmental for the hospitality industry. This Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points training is designed to cut waste by 5-10%.
