Adam Chambers
Chief Executive Officer

Adam Chambers

Adam is a senior director within Serco’s economic development business unit and currently Chief Executive Officer for Peninsula Enterprise, which is part of Serco Regional Services Ltd. Peninsula Enterprise is responsible for the delivery of a number of business support programmes in Cornwall & The Isles of Scilly, Devon and Somerset, including Business Link.

Adam’s previous experience working for Serco includes leading the team responsible for the marketing of the Envirowise programme in 2006, where innovative marketing and PR campaigns were implemented. He also had a significant role in the transformation of the award winning business.gov programme, where he personally directed innovations and best practice across the programme’s operations.

Before joining Serco in 2001, Adam held a number of roles in AEA Technology, including leading their E-business unit, focused on the development of web-enabled products and services. He has also worked as a researcher in the UK’s Meteorological Office, a role he took on following completion of his post doctoral studies at the University of Oxford

Philip Smith
Business Link South West
Philip Smith

Philip comes from an oil and gas engineering background, and, after graduating with an MBA from London Business Schools and University of California Berkeley in the mid 1980’s, moved onto mergers and acquisitions in corporate finance with an investment bank based in the City of London.

Philip was employed as CEO of Business Link West (BLW) in Bristol in 1995 and became the Managing Director of Business West, the holding company of Bristol Chamber of Commerce & Initiative, in 2003.

With the restructuring last year of Business Link service delivery country-wide, he also became the Managing Director of Northern Arc Ltd, the joint venture vehicle set up to run from April the new Business Link service in Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and the West of England.

Philip holds a firm view on the crucial role of business in helping shape the governance of the public realm and prosperity of our region and this informs his strategic stance leading the recent merger of Business West / Bristol Chamber of Commerce & Initiative with GWE to provide a broader geographic base and a critical mass in both this representation and influencing role. He is Managing Director of the merged company – GWE Business West Ltd.

Philip is a fellow of the RSA, a trustee of St Peter’s Hospice in Bristol, chairman of the Advisory Board of the South West Regional Venture Capital Fund and a director of QSW Ltd and Equality South West Ltd.

Kathryn Mintoft
Barclays
Kathryn Mintoft

Kathryn Mintoft is Senior Environmental Sustainability Manager at Barclays with over five years of experience as an environmental professional. Her role is to reduce the environmental impact that Barclays has through its 3,500 offices and branches worldwide. Kathryn’s work includes implementing Barclays Climate Action Programme, which focuses on driving energy-efficiency, buying renewable energy and offsetting the remainder of carbon dioxide emissions. Kathryn is also responsible for improving environmental sustainability in Barclays supply chain. Barclays were winners of Business in the Community’s Award for Environmental Excellence in 2007.

Simon Drury

Simon Drury

Simon Drury is the Business Partnerships Director for the Envirowise Project. This is a role he has held since 2006. Simon is responsible to the development and delivery of the Envirowise Large Business engagement strategy. He project manages a number of projects with large businesses and is a spokesperson for the wider Envirowise Project.

Simon has specialist skills in all aspects of corporate environmental management, to include corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, resource efficiency, waste management, and environmental management systems.

Prior to this Simon was the UK Environmental Manager for the Center Parcs Ltd (a UK Sustainable tourism destination). A post he held for seven years. Within this role Simon is responsible for all aspects of the four UK village's Environmental, Energy, sustainability and CSR strategies, including the company's ISO14001 certification.

Simon went to college as a mature student and gained his BSc Honour from Leeds University in 1997, he is an Associate Member of IEMA, Founder Chair of the EMRA's Promoting Sustainable Development Group, which works to drive forward the sustainable development and climate charge agenda with five counties. He is a member of the Regional Energy Group.

He sits on his regional CBI's Environment Committee. Simon is committed to showing businesses that the environmental consideration makes good business sense.

Simon is married to Susan and has two teenage daughters, Abbie and Megan. In his spare time Simon is a keen naturalist, he enjoys sailing and fly-fishing, something's, which he does not do as much as he would like.

Mark Bartlett
Environmental Manager
Ginsters Cornish Pasties
Mark Bartlett

Mark Bartlett is the Environmental Manager of Ginsters Cornish Pasties, with over six years of experience as an environmental professional.

His role is to reduce the environmental impacts of the daily operations associated with the bakery. These duties include managing the companies ISO14001 Environmental Management System, their IPPC Environmental Permit and managing the operations of the waste management facilities and effluent treatment plant.

Mark Shayler

Mark Shayler

Mark Shayler has 15 years experience in resource efficiency and ecodesign. He has been an Envirowise advisor for 4 years and prior to that sat on the Envirowise management advisory committee for 6 years.

After working at the coalface (not literally) with SMEs for 8 years Mark spent an unforgettable period as Environment Manager at ASDA-Walmart.

Mark is Managing Director of eco3, a specialist ecodesign and environmental consultancy. He is a Technical Advisor for the DTI's Waste Resources Action Programme, has published widely on business and environment issues and has directly advised in excess of 800 businesses.

He provided on-screen expertise for the Channel Four programme "The Insider" which looked at over-packaging and he has also provided expertise on clean design and environmental issues for Radio Four's 'You and Yours' and Radio Five Live.

Katie Challenor

Katie Challenor

Katie has over ten years experience in the environmental field, with particular expertise in water management, resource efficiency and IPPC. She is a Senior Environmental Scientist of Ashact, a Division of Hyder Consulting Ltd, and has worked on the Envirowise programme for nine years.

Katie has prepared material for a number of Envirowise publications including Good Practice Guides, Case Studies and fact sheets and has been an advisor on the Envirowise Advice Line for three years.

Much of her experience comes from working in the food and drink industry, retail, hospitality and other commercial sectors where she has undertaken waste and water audits, environmental reviews, effluent monitoring programmes and prepared a number of IPPC permit applications.

Gregor Pennie

Gregor Pennie

Gregor is a Director of Enviromentor Ltd. Since 1995, he has worked extensively as an adviser and consultant to Envirowise and has provided high-level support to this key government programme throughout the UK. Support has included writing good practice guides and case studies, and delivering environmental training workshops for regulators, intermediaries and businesses. Topics have included waste minimisation, water minimisation, environmental awareness, environmental management systems, legislative compliance, supply chain partnerships and sustainability strategies for companies.
