Process Changes at Plastics Company Save Costs and Waste - CS274

March 2001

This Case Study describes the benefits to a plastics company of implementing a long-term waste minimisation plan. A number of cost-saving changes to process control were introduced without compromising quality. Steps were also taken to involve customers and staff before any changes were made to improve the company’s operations. The successes include improvements to process control which have resulted in a 6% reduction in raw material purchase of polymer and a saving of £400 000/year in material costs.
