Water and chemical waste minimisation (Frost Electroplating) - CS389

First published April 2003

Over £1 million of efficiency savings achieved by an electroplating company.
This Case Study demonstrates the economic and environmental benefits of adopting a waste minimisation programme based on continual improvement at a medium-sized electroplating company. Frost Electroplating has used proven techniques to reduce water consumption, minimise effluent generation, reduce metal and chemical losses to effluent, minimise overplating and recover metal. Resource efficiency is the subject of regular monitoring and management meetings. Benefits from the programme include cost savings of over £1.5 million over five years, price cuts for customers and significant reductions in water, metal and chemical consumption.
