Scottish microelectronics company Atmel Smart Card ICs Ltd (Atmel) has shown how simple, low-cost packaging reductions made through communicating with customers and motivating staff can result in cost savings and reduced environmental impact. The benefits to Atmel include: packaging waste reduction of 2.4 tonnes/year to landfill; packaging purchase cost savings of over £3,500/year; and a 60% reduction in waste disposal costs, saving £5,000/year.
