Construction company benefits from site waste management plan - CS752

This Case Study on Knox & Wells demonstrates the cost and environmental benefits from drawing up and implementing a Site Waste Management Plan for a building refurbishment project in Cardiff city centre. The role of the site manager in organising and supervising waste segregation for recycling, planned sequential removal of different materials, allocating staff time to clean up segregated materials and careful control of skip movements proved crucial at the small site. The benefits of the project included total cost savings of £4,150 (1.66% of project value), a 51% reduction in the waste management bill and a 29% reduction in the volume of waste sent to landfill.
