This Good Practice Guide describes how eight offset lithographic printing companies have achieved cost and environmental benefits by reducing or eliminating isopropyl alcohol (IPA) use on their presses. The featured companies are of different sizes (9 - 460 employees) and include representatives from the sheet-fed, UV sheet-fed, metal sheet-fed and heat-set web offset lithographic sectors of the printing industry. The benefits of reducing or eliminating IPA use in offset lithographic printing include reduced expenditure on IPA and other press room chemicals, reduced volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, improved working conditions, less substrate and ink waste, enhanced print quality and reduced fire risk.
