Scottish businesses that manufacture or use chemical products are being urged to attend an event offering them the chance to seek specialist advice on how to reduce the use and generation of hazardous substances.
With the true cost of waste to a company amounting to between five and 10 times the cost of disposing of it, sustainability expert, Envirowise is urging businesses in the central belt to think more carefully about resource efficiency by attending a free, one-off Green Chemistry Event in Stirling.
Green Chemistry has become a significant area of interest due to increasing trends of green consumerism, supply chain pressures, a regulatory non-governmental organisation (NGO) focus on chemicals, and increased realisation of its wide-ranging business benefits.
The event will take place at the Stirling Highland Hotel on Spittal Street from 9am-1pm on 5 November and will provide businesses with top tips on resource efficiency and provide some solutions to help cut costs and improve legislative compliance through environmental improvements.
Both manufacturers of a wide range of chemical products including paints, plastics, adhesives, pharmaceuticals as well as businesses which regularly use chemicals as part of their day-to-day operations will find this free event highly valuable in understanding more about simple measures that can increase profits, resource efficiency and productivity.
Robbie Weir, Envirowise programme manager for Scotland, explains:
"For many companies, knowing where to start on the road to improving their resource efficiency is the biggest challenge. Green Chemistry describes the process of designing chemical products and processes with the reduction or elimination of hazardous substance use in mind. Doing this could lead to significant commercial benefits, including the savings associated with reduced waste disposal costs."
"Resource efficiency incorporates aspects including waste minimisation, energy efficiency, cleaner technology and product redesign, many of these concepts can be achieved through the application of green chemistry."
