The construction industry faces increasingly stringent waste reduction and recovery targets under the Producer Responsibility (Packaging Waste) Obligations, and Envirowise is urging companies to investigate how a free guide, which includes a CD-ROM, could help them effectively minimise packaging waste.
Of the 100 million tonnes of construction waste generated each year in the UK, packaging materials account for a surprisingly large proportion – an average of around 34‰.
Legislation will obligate many larger companies to ensure that as much as 70‰ of this packaging waste is re-used or recycled by 2010.
